Practice quiz

At the interview, the officer reads each question out loud and you answer in your own words. There are no choices to pick from. That is why this quiz has no multiple choice: you type your answer, the same way you would say it.

  • How answers are checked. The quiz uses fuzzy matching to ignore punctuation, capitalization and grammar or spelling mistakes as much as possible. At times it will still err on the side of marking a right answer incorrect. If you think your answer is right, simply press the My wording is also correct button and it counts as correct.
  • One question per page. Check your answer, see every accepted answer, then move to the next question. Each question links back to the part of the story where its answer appears.
  • What is left out. The four questions that depend on where you live (23, 29, 61 and 62) are not in the quiz. Find those on the Your state page. The quiz does not store names for the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House and Chief Justice, because they change. For those four, type your answer, look it up with one click, and mark it yourself.

Your answers and progress are saved only in this browser on this device. The 65/20 questions (marked ★) are the ones asked of applicants who are 65 or older and have been permanent residents for 20 years or more.

The mock test works like the interview: up to 20 questions from every part of the official list, in random order. Answer 12 correctly to pass; 9 incorrect or skipped answers end the test. Every mock test is a new set of questions.
